Marvin - A Man of Action

52 year old welder Marvin Heemeyer lived in Grunbee Colorado fixing vehicle exhausts. His small repair shop was located near a concrete factory called Mountain Park. To Marvin and his neighbours' horror, the owners of Mountain Park decided to expand the factory, forcing the people living near-by to sell their land to the owners of Mountain Park Concrete.

Sooner or later the factory's neighbours gave up, except for Marvin. Having tried every way possible, the owners of the factory failed to acquire his land. However all the surrounding land was now owned by the factory which resulted in Marvin's shop getting cut off from the rest of the world.

Marvin tried everything in his powers to get justice. Unfortunately the city council and other politicians of the state were on the factory owners' side. Not surprisingly Marvin lost the case to the owners in court. After that Marvin was also given a $2500 fine for not having a connected sewer line. When paying the fine Marvin attached a note to the cheque and ticket that read "Cowards".

On the 4th of June, 2004, nearly two years later and  after continued harassment by the concrete company, his shop cut off and inaccessible to customers and reduced to poverty by the court fine and lack of business Marvin decided that enough was enough.

On a rainy day Marvin rolled out into town on an improvised tank - a bulldozer reinforced with metal sheets that he had been building in secret using his skills and workshop.

He started with the concrete factory, destroying building after building, until the factory was demolished. Then it was the city council's turn followed by the town hall, then the bank, the public library, the fire station, a warehouse, the local paper and other buildings belonging to the mayor.

In typical restrained law enforcement manner, the police tried to stop Heemeyer. More than 200 bullets were fired at the armoured vehicle, causing no harm at all. The police force then decided to battle the titan with hand grenades. Once again their efforts were useless. Later a vehicle rigged with explosives was put in Marvin's path to destruction, it also had no effect. Marvin's bulldozer was unstoppable.

By this time, under fire and pursued, bombed and chased, poor old Marvin had lost it completely. Marvin returned fire using two semi-automatic .23 caliber rifles and a single .50 caliber semi-automatic rifle through specially designed gun portholes in the vehicle's front, left and right sides.

All the police were able to do was evacuate 1500 inhabitants (the town's population was 2200) and block all the roads, including a federal highway that lead to the town.

Marvin's war ended at 4:23 PM.

Having just finished destroying the Gambles Mall, the bulldozer suddenly stopped. The only thing that could be heard coming form Marvin's death machine was smoke out of a damaged radiator.

At first the police officers were too afraid to approach the thing.

Trying to get Marvin out of his fortress, they had to make a hole in the armour plating using cutting gear. When they finally got through, Marvin was already dead. He wasn't going to fall into the enemy's hands alive.

Despite the great damage to property (13 buildings were destroyed, most requiring hundreds of thousands of dollars to be replaced), no one besides Heemeyer was injured; observers noted that Marvin appeared to go out of his way to avoid injury to bystanders.

The governor said that the city looked as if a tornado had just gone through.

Later an investigation was carried out. It was discovered that Marvin's creation was so strong that even a powerful artillery blow would only cause minor damage. The bulldozer was totally covered in sheet metal, with each piece being at least half an inch thick. In places, the vehicle's armour  was over one foot thick, consisting of concrete sandwiched between sheets of steel to make ad-hoc composite armour.

To fit the bulldozer with this shell, Marvin had to use a self-made crane.

"Lowering the protective armor onto the vehicle, Marvin knew he wouldn't be able to get out"- said police officials.

Marvin had packed the interior with supplies such as water, food, ammo and a gasmask. To control the dozer, Marvin used 3 monitors and a couple of video cameras. In an event of the cameras being blinded by dust  they were fitted with air compressors.

It took Marvin 2 months to design the Killdozer, and according to sources, 1.5 years to build it.

"He was a fine lad", - said the people that were close to Marvin. "They shouldn't have made him angry". "If he was your friend, he was your best friend. And if he was your enemy, well he was your worst and most  dangerous enemy." - said Marvin's friends.

UK Police Demonstrate - Unhappy with 2.5% Pay Rise

    3

    Dear Sir/Madam/Automated Telephone Answering Service,

Having spent the past twenty minutes waiting for someone at your police station to pick up a telephone I have decided to abandon the idea and try e-mailing you instead. Perhaps you would be so kind as to pass this message on to your colleagues at central by means of smoke signal, carrier pigeon or ouji board.

As I'm writing this e-mail there are eleven failed medical experiments (I think you call them youths) in Bartletts Road which is just off West Street, in case you don't know. Six of them seem happy enough to play a game which involves kicking a football against an iron gate with the force of a meteorite. This causes an earth shattering CLANG! which rings throughout the entire building. This game is now in it's third week and as I am unsure how the scoring system works, I have no idea if it will end any time soon.

The remaining five walking abortions are happily rummaging through several bags of rubbish and items of furniture that someone has so thoughtfully dumped beside the wheelie bins. One of them has found a saw and is setting about a discarded chair like a beaver on speed. I fear that it's only a matter of time before they turn their limited attention to the bottle of Calor gas that is lying on it's side between the two bins. If they could be relied on to only blow their own arms and legs off then I would happily leave them to it. I would even go so far as to lend them the matches. Unfortunately they are far more likely to blow up half the street with them and I've just finished decorating the kitchen.

What I suggest is this: after replying to this e-mail with worthless assurances that the matter is being looked into and will be dealt with, why not leave it until the one night of the year (probably bath night) when there are no mutants around then drive up the street in a panda car before doing a three point turn and disappearing again. This will of course serve no other purpose than to remind us what policemen actually look like.

I trust that when I take a claw-hammer to the skull of one of these throwbacks you'll do me the same courtesy of giving me a four month head start before coming to arrest me.

I remain Sir, your obedient servant

    Ben M

    Dear Mr M,sma

I have read your e-mail and understand your frustration at the problems caused by youth playing in the area and the problems you have encountered in trying to contact the police.

As the Community Beat Officer for your street I would like to extend an offer of discussing the matter fully with you.

Should you wish to discuss the matter, please provide contact details (address / telephone number) and when may be suitable.

    Regards

    PC Plod

    Community Beat Officer

    Dear PC Plod,

First of all I would like to thank you for the speedy response to my original e-mail. 16 hours and 38 minutes must be a personal record for your station and rest assured that I will forward these details to Norris McWhirter for inclusion in his next Guinness Book of Records.

Secondly I was delighted to hear that our street has it's own Community Beat Officer. May I be the first to congratulate you on your covert skills. In the five or so years I have lived in Bartletts Road, I have never seen you. Do you hide up a tree? Or have you gone deep undercover and infiltrated the gang itself? Are you the one with the acne and the moustache on his forehead, or the one with a chin like a wash hand basin? It's surely only a matter of time before you are head-hunted by MI5.

Whilst I realise that there may be far more serious crimes taking place in the UK, such as smoking in a public place, driving faster than 30 on a motorway or being Muslim without due care and attention, is it too much to ask for a policeman to explain (using words of no more than two syllables at a time) to these twats that they might want to play their strange football game elsewhere? The pitch behind the Park or the one at the school are both within spitting distance, as is the bottom of the City Dock.

Should you wish to discuss these matters further you should feel free to contact me on xxx xxxx. If after 25 minutes I have still failed to answer, I'll buy you a large one in the Engineer.

    Regards,

    Ben M

    It's been soooo long....

No real excuses I'm afraid, just the usual I'm too busy, it was Christmas etc. etc. although I did go to the GITEX in Dubai again. Most excellent place if you're looking for a 102" plasma screen or a Hummer with Windows 2003 Server installed (and no, I am not joking).

    Anyway, Dubai is always interesting:

    Dubai 1960's

    clip_image001

    Dubai 1990:

    clip_image001[4]

    Dubai 2003:

    clip_image001[6]

    Dubai 2007:

    clip_image001[8]

Currently Dubai has about 25% of the world's tower cranes.....

The waterfront at Medinhat al Arab:

    clip_image001[10]

When completed it will be the most extensive waterfront development in the world....

All of this was built within 5 years, including the Palm developments which my company is working on:

    clip_image001[12]

The Palms (there will be three in total) are massive man made islands including luxury villas, hotels, shops, marinas etc. and are visible from space.

    clip_image001[16]

When finished there will be 2,000 villas, 40 luxury hotels, shopping centers, movie theaters, and many other facilities. It is expected to support a population of approximately 500,000 people.

    clip_image001[18]

The World, Dubai. 300 artificially created islands in the shape of the world. If you want one each island will set you back about $25-30 million.

    clip_image001[20]

The Burj al-Arab hotel in Dubai . The only '7 star' hotel and the most luxurious hotel in the world. It stands on an artificial island in the sea:

    clip_image001[22]

Hydropolis, the world's first underwater hotel. Entirely built in Germany and then assembled in Dubai , it is scheduled to be completed by 2009 after many delays:clip_image001[24]

The Burj Dubai. Construction began in 2005 and is expected to be complete by 2008. At an estimated height of over 800 meters, it will easily be world's tallest building when finished. It will be almost 40% taller than the the current tallest building, the Taipei 101:

    clip_image001[26]

This is what downtown Dubai will look like around 2008-2009. More than 140 stories of the Burj Dubai have already been completed. It is already the worlds tallest man made structure and it is still not scheduled to be completed for at least another year:clip_image001[28]

The Al Burj. This will be the centerpiece of the Dubai Waterfront. Once completed it will take over the title of the tallest structure in the world from the Burj Dubai.

    clip_image001[30]

Recently it was announced that the final height of the Al Burj will be 1200 meters. That would make it more than 30% taller than the Burj Dubai and three times as tall as the Empire State Building .

    clip_image001[32]

The Burj al Alam, or The World Tower . Upon completion it will rank as the world's highest hotel. It is expected to be finished by 2009. At 480 meters it will only be 28 meters shorter than the Taipei 101:

    clip_image001[34]

Dubailand. Currently, the largest amusement park collection in the world is Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando , which is also the largest single-site employer in the United states with 58,000 employees. Dubailand will be twice the size:

    clip_image001[36]

Dubailand will be built on 3 billion square feet (107 sq miles) at an estimated $20 billion price tag. The site will include a purported 45 mega projects and 200 hundred other smaller projects.

    clip_image001[38] clip_image001[40]

Dubai Sports City . A huge collection of sports arenas located in Dubailand:

    clip_image001[42]

    clip_image001[44]

The Dubai Marina is an entirely man made development that will contain over 200 high rise buildings when finished. It will be home to some of the tallest residential structures in the world. The completed first phase of the project is shown. Most of the other high rise buildings will be finished by 2009-2010.

    clip_image001[46]

The Dubai Mall will be the largest shopping mall in the world with over 9 million square feet of shopping and around 1000 stores. It will be completed in 2008.

    clip_image001[48]

The UAE Spaceport would be the first spaceport in the world if construction ever gets under way. I'm not joking...

    clip_image001[50]

The Dubai Metro system, once completed, will become the largest fully automated rail system in the world.

The Dubai World Central International Airport will become the largest airport in size when it is completed. It will also eventually become the busiest airport in the world, based on passenger volume.

There are more construction workers in Dubai than there are actual citizens.
